ouch. what to do? what can be done to stop this massive globalization end of the earth-nature-tribes who respect life and live symbiotically? I agree we must stop cutting down rainforests, but will this halt the destruction of these tribes,or is it inevitable with contact from outside? Part of me thinks there is no way to preserve, only to remember.
At least you got to witness them. You will have a part of them with you always.

have you read Martin Prechtel? I am reading Secrets of the Talking Jaguar, which I'm sure you've read, and if not, you must immediately.
he too, got to live with a now-extinct tribe, and he carries their spirit forward, into who he is, his art and books and touches people now here in the U.S., us hungry souls who've been cut off from our ties to nature and seeing the earth through indiginous eyes for the Divine. he gives us new life with his breath he carries over from Guatemala. we need more like him, more people who bring the indigenous soul back into our society here now. we are hungry for it, we need it.
I know I do. My consciousness is shifting to a deeper rapport for the animals and nature I have always felt deeply connected to - but was never supported in this society - I had no framework for it. that is changing, as new insights come in, as new folks I meet show me how by understanding themselves, what I mean. my spirit has always been wild, with the animals... I can't even pretend anymore, to get a job. heh. feel caged the moment I step into an office...

i'm going to ecuador, goddess willing & supporting, soon! when i return i'm writing a book called way of the jaguar. chapter one - voice of the jaguar, the story of two indigenous jaguar shamen, and one odd white boy born in philly who woke to find himself also a jaguar shaman.

jeremy narby wrote "the cosmic serpent" about ayahuasquero's, ayahuasca, and dna. in it he made an analogy between indigenous medicine men, and libraries being burned.

it is my belief that these cultures have been/are being systematically and with intention destroyed so that their knowledge is no longer here on the planet and everyone will be a slave to the government, western medicine, money, greed, unsustainable practices and the rape of the planet for the personal gain.

i charge the u.s. government with murdering it's own indigenous friends. these people befriended us when we came here. instead

    GENOCIDE!

    what to do.

i send reiki healing energy and prayers to the earth from her core to the edge of her atmosphere, all the indigenous peoples esp. very endangered cultures like the penan dayaks, the big cats, esp. the very endangered:

south china tiger, 30-50 left (this is considered a critically endangered level!!!)
    sumatran tiger, 400 left
    siberian tiger 150 left
    eurasian lynx 150 left
    amur leopard 30-50 left
    florida panther 30-50 left

also to the whale's, dolpins, and all endangered species. we cannot afford to lose diversity!!!

i urge, ask, plead with all reiki practioners to send reiki to your world with intention for sustainability and balance for all life here on earth!!! and all reiki masters to put these same prayers intentions on your crystal grids (if you work with them.)

i ask everyone to pray for our world, for the physical suvival, health and healing of the planet and all it's life forms.

other than that if you see an opportunity to do something - DO IT!, post it here so we all can do it too!

    meow!

WE ABSOLUTELY MUST DO EVERYTHING WE CAN TO STOP RAINFOREST DEFORESTATION.

THEY FOUND A VINE THAT KILLED HIV IN TEST TUBES IN LESS THAN A MINUTE, WIPED IT OUT LIKE IT WAS SNOT! WHEN THEY RETURNED TO SARAWAK (where my peoples live and are dying) THEY COULDN'T FIND THE VINE ANYMORE BECAUSE THE WHOLE FUCKING RAINFOREST WAS CLEARCUT.

    DO YOU UNDERSTAND THIS PEOPLE?

EVERY SINGLE PERSON SUFFERING FROM AIDS/HIV IS DYING NEEDLESSLY BECAUSE GREED & DEFORESTATION DESTROYED A CURE!

HELLO - THIS IS YOUR LAST WAKE UP CALL FOR THE FORESTS!!!

Part of me thinks there is no way to preserve, only to remember.

if your mother died would you miss her, every day would you remember the things she did for you?

i can't live without these people, these cats, i'm leaving the planet with them! their memories are precious to me, but i prefer their presence a million times over!

    it's your world DON'T BITCH WHEN YOU'RE A SLAVE!

wow, I had not heard about this vine. incredible. there are many many miracles in the rainforest. when I was younger, I wanted to be an ethnobotanist, exploring jungles and native peoples for secret medicinal plants.... (well I got the degree in botany, but never made it to brazil...)

the rainforest is a powerhouse. this is why its important to DO what you can to help preserve it. When you buy coffee in the grocery store, do you specifically look for Organic Shade-Grown Coffee? The coffee industry is TERRIBLE!!! it makes a lot of money- so they clearcut the rainforest, plant as many trees as possible, spray the fuck out of it with pesticides because the trees are weakened by growning in direct sunlight - you are drinking concentrated poisons with every cup! The seeds of a plant (the coffee bean) is where all the fat of a plant is stored, the form of dormant energy for the new seedling. Pesticides *love* fat, and that is exactly where they get sucked up and stored also -into the bean. Do yourself and conscientious indigenous peoples a favor and spend the extra buck (sometimes its the same price!) and buy ORGANIC COFFEE!!!! when its organic i'm pretty sure its always shade-grown - correct me if i'm wrong - and this mixed forest situation - the trees are left standing to shade the coffee plants - allows for wildlife to continue to live and thrive. the pesticides actually kill off ALL the wildlife - because the birds eat the poisoned insects, small animals eat the birds...

I don't know if the Jaguars like the coffee plants but hey its at least one way to put your $$ towards not supporting clearcut rainforest. little things like this add up, especially when enough people do it!
there is also a save the rainforest website which has portals to shop at stores where a percentage of proceeds go towards buying, and saving, rainforest - i'll ask my kitty-toy and get back to y'all.

oh and one more thing... pet peeve of mine... bitching about the world and doing nothing about it. when people start complaining, I always ask if they voted. you'd be surprised by how many didn't.
likewise, it takes only a few minutes to send an email letter or fax, if that. lets make it easy for everyone - please post links and info on legislation regarding rainforests and jaguars, or organizations who are taking action, so we can all participate at the press of a button! please!!!!
