Lynx Fur Flying: Political Meddling in Science
In December, 2001, the Washington Times ran a story about lynx biologists in Washington State. The story implied that a number of biologists, employees of the US Forest Service, US Fish and Wildlife Service and the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife had conspired to defraud the public by planting lynx hairs into a wide ranging habitat survey to back some sort of secret, illicit environmental agenda.
Before agency scientists had a chance to respond, a number of politicians jumped into the fray, demanding hearings, investigations and even termination of the scientists involved.
The biggest victim in this political quagmire has been the truth. A review of the record of this case demonstrates conclusively that this has been more a matter of political posturing than scientific wrongdoing. A number of key points have been obscured and should be illuminated ... read more >>>

Re: fight for our lynx's!!! kill corrupt agencies!
Tue, May 10, 2005 - 7:15 PMAn ex-boss of mine is the head of the Colorado Dept of Wildlife lnyx project. She LOVES the lynx and bends over backwards to fight for their intended territory and to stand up to hunting rights and developing right proponents. I have always found that people that get into this work get into it because they love animals too and want to spend their lives trying to preserve their habitat. This story sounds weird and I don't understand how they would benefit by doing this. Unless it was for cutbacks from loggers...
How amazing would it be to see a lynx?!? So powerful and ancient... -

Re: fight for our lynx's!!! kill corrupt agencies!
Tue, May 10, 2005 - 7:49 PMthe fish & wildlife dept has been proven complicity in the case of the jaguar they had to be SUED in u.s. federal court to create a jaguar sanctuary in the south west u.s., and to classify the jaguar as an endangered species here in america, we used to have ocelot's here too! along way back!!! no more tho!
2. fish & wildlife has acted with blatant corruption in it's treatment of the florida panther, which i PURRSONALLY am in the process of filing federal suit against!
3. it's not unlikely that the fur industry, the logging, or mining industries are involved in this totally weird scheme, for who knows what end, other than
DEAD CATS = no protection for the natural resources, = exploited, used up, dead natural resources.
also this story takes places in washington state and has NOTHING to do with colorado?

there are good people involved in fish & wildlife, the twisted story of the florida panther shows that the boilogist who blew the whistle and said fish & wildlife was using "flawed" (falsified in my opinion due to the 30 swamp DEVELOPEMENT proposals the fish & wildlife recieved, which the head of f&w ordered his underlings to approve without question or exception.
we are a strong enough country that if we put inter-national pressure, embargoes etc. on the trading of illegal, endangered big cats skins IT WOULD STOP!
instead we shoot tigers to death on our own soil, or in zoo's, without even trying any other method!
our world is weird, specially if your a cat.
think my next tattoo will be a bullseye right on my forehead!
